Two professors from KEDGE are among the world’s top 10 teacher-researchers in the maritime Supply Chain field: Jason Monios and Pierre Cariou
In a recently published article in the International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics, professors from Inha University (South Korea) and Shandong Normal University (China) compiled a list of the world’s 50 best teacher-researchers specialising in maritime transport. KEDGE is the only Business School to be featured in the top 10, with two professors, Jason Monios and Pierre Cariou who are respectively ranked at 5th and 9th place for their impact scores, over the 2011-2015 period.
The authors of the article Top 50 authors, affiliations, and countries in maritime research studied academic output published in 65 journals specialising in transport and logistics between 2000 and 2015. Between 2011 and 2015, Jason Monios and Pierre Cariou were ranked 5th and 9th for their impact scores, this being assessed based on the reputation of the journals in which they were published. Over the whole 2000-2015 period, these two professors from KEDGE were listed respectively in 8th and 11th place.

The professors Pierre Cariou and Jason Monios are both part of KEDGE’s Supply Chain Centre of Excellence. They teach students on the International Trade & Logistics programme, the ISLI – Global Supply Chain Management programme and the KEDGE Mastère Grande Ecole programme, as well as being involved in Executive Education, where among other things they have participated in training managers as part of a bespoke international programme for the CMA CGM group.
Changes in the shipping industry are contributing to the expansion of the global economy but have also led to the emergence of a number of issues attracting growing interest from the scientific community over recent decades, and to which KEDGE has contributed.
About Jason Monios
Professor in maritime supply chain logistics at KEDGE Business School since 2017. His research areas include intermodal transport and logistics, port system evolution, collaboration and integration in port hinterlands, port governance and policy, port sustainability and climate change adaptation. He has managed many research projects and produced more than 70 peer-reviewed academic publications plus numerous consultants’ reports covering Europe, North and South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and jointly chairs the Intermodal Freight Transport SIG of the World Conference on Transport Research (WCTRS), in addition to being a member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME), of the Port Performance Research Network (PPRN) and of the online initiative Porteconomics.eu. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Göteborg and the University of Manitoba.
About Pierre Cariou
Senior professor in maritime and port economics at KEDGE Business School since 2010. His research fields are focused on the economy and maritime and port strategies, maritime safety and environmental protection. He has produced more than 80 peer-reviewed academic publications and many consultants’ reports and projects (CMA CGM, Nantes and Marseille port authorities, the Casino group, NATIXIS bank, SKS Tanker, etc.). He is a member of the Port Performance Research Network (PPRN), a founder member of the online initiative Porteconomics.eu and former vice-president of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME). He manages the Maritime Governance, Trade and Logistics Laboratory at KEDGE’s Centre of excellence for Supply Chain Management (CESIT) and is a visiting professor at Shanghai Maritime University and at the IMO / World Maritime University (WMU).
About the KEDGE Supply Chain Centre of Excellence
Directed by Prof. Walid Klibi, the Center of Excellence in Supply Chain at KEDGE aims to develop new methods, techniques and concepts of organisation and decision making in the areas of Supply Chain management (SCM), operations management and transportation. It further aims to bridge the gap between the theory and practice of SCM by the appropriate transfer of knowledge into actual industrial projects and further dissemination of research findings in the courses offered at KEDGE.
