From a Pro-Act to publishing a novel: the unique journey of a Kedge student
Charlotte Ben Brik first attended KEDGE's international EBP course. In three years, she developed a Pro-Act, "Les petites pattes Bordelaises" - a platform connecting Bordeaux students and owners for pet sitting - a project that was incubated at the business nursery. She then decided to take the MSc Arts and Creative Industries Management course at KEDGE. In 2020, she began writing her novel as her second Pro-Act project.
This philosophical science-fiction novel "The Last Shiita" is an original and ambitious project: "Céleste is a teenager in the midst of questioning. She lives in Asthiar, a world in which every young person who comes to the age of reason is transformed into a half animal, half human evolution. Unfortunately, Céleste is different. She does not transform, despite the pressure from her entourage to find her way. In search of truth and freedom, misunderstood by her family, with no friends other than her faithful cat, she continually questions all the inconsistencies she finds in her world. Finally, her late transformation and her meeting with the goddess Gaia, then with Julien, leads her on the path to Truth. Through a mission in which she commits herself with all her soul to save the Shiitas, the children of Gaia, she will face dangers and obstacles that will force her to surpass herself, until she finds the answers to her questions... "
"This book is quite complex. Everyone can choose to understand it in their own way. Through this novel, I first wanted to express the functioning of my hypersensitivity and show how I perceived the world around me. Then it evolved and I realised that there were several ways of reading it. This philosophical science-fiction novel deals, as its name indicates, with many philosophical notions such as the notion of freedom, truth and reality. It also deals with many current issues such as overconsumption. But above all it is a journey towards self-acceptance."
KEDGE's MSc Arts & Creative Industries Management programme
This booming cultural and creative sector involves a wide range of activities, characterised by specific strategic aspects and increasingly strong hybridisation. The expertise of the Creative Industries & Culture Research Centre, supporting this programme, allows students to specialise in the management of the arts, culture and creative industries, first in a specialised course of the Grande École programme in Bordeaux, and now in this MSc programme in Paris. This leading programme in the field takes a generic approach in order to explore the full diversity of the cultural sector. Students can then understand the processes of value creation in the creative industries, and enjoy increased employability. Although the main purpose of the programme is to train creative industries managers, occasionally students' passion for culture, their creative and entrepreneurial skills, lead them to develop an artistic project like Charlotte's.
The "Pro-Acts" are an essential part of the curriculum of KEDGE undergraduate programmes and belong to the Be-U system, a unique personal and professional development system created by KEDGE. They allow for the professionalisation of project management and help students understand all the steps involved. The Pro-Acts are also key to recognising KEDGE's pedagogical know-how and the professional maturity of its students. They are made up of 2 parts: The implementation of a project logic requires students to analyse their environment in order to define a strategy, to be active in several projects and to use different types of skills and knowledge. The implementation of the project calls for students to adapt to the reality of their environment, to develop multiple skills, to gain self-confidence through their success and the understanding of their mistakes, to be confronted with the concrete results of their actions and thereby understand the logic of performance.
