Cost of study in France for Indian students

The average tuition fees at public universities for international students range from EUR 2,500 to EUR 4,000 a year. However, autonomous universities have the ability to set tuition fees of their choice.

Scholarships opportunities to study in France 

The French Ministry awards many different scholarships to foreign students.

The French government scholarship programme in India is called Charpak and is run by the Embassy of France in India. The programme is named after Georges Charpak (1924 - 2010). He was a French physicist and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1992.

The Charpak scholarship programme offers four types of funding for Bachelor's and Master's level studies :  Bachelor’s Degree Programmes / Master’s Degree Programmes / Research Internships / Exchange programmes.

The Eiffel Scholarship is offered by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and International Development through Campus France Paris to the best international students. The University/Institution applies on behalf of the student for the scholarship. the scholarship programme is applicable only for Master’s and PhD studies. The awardees receive 1,181 euros (master degree) and 1,400 euros (PhD) per month, plus additional allowance for life expenditures.

Requirements to study in France for Indian students

Language requirement

You do not need to speak fluent French to study in France, many programmes are taught in English.

The EU university that you are planning to study in would require an aptitude test – IELTS, TOEIC or TOEFL for language skills and GRE, GMAT, SAT or PAT for academic and intellectual skills. These tests follow a fixed format and pattern.

Visa requirement

France has developed a highly attractive visa policy for Indian students, which includes eligibility for a 2-year post-graduation employment visa in France.

5-year short-stay visas are granted to all Indian alumni who hold a Master’s or higher state-recognised degree from French institutes.

Education requirement

Baccalauréat (equivalent to AISSCE) License (equivalent to Bachelor's in India) Master's and Master's level qualifications (equivalent to Master's in India)

Financial requirement

Do I need to supply a bank statement? At the time of writing, the current amount required to demonstrate these financial requirements is €615 per month, which can be shown with a bank statement, alternatively through a guarantor's letter, a notice of funding from a loan, from a scholarship or grant
